Coral Sands (Golden Nugget) Motel

The first view was postmarked in 1964 and features the Golden Nugget Motel located at 1010 Boulevard. The reverse side of the postcard indicates that the motel was named the Heights Motel, but by 1964 it had been renamed the Golden Nugget Motel. Someone – perhaps “Larry and Barb” who mailed the postcard to friends residing in Rahway, NJ – noted with a pen the location of the motel’s pool because the pool hadn’t been constructed yet when the scene was photographed. Also, the St. Charles Hotel – one of the town’s earliest rooming houses – is visible in the background on a Sheridan Avenue lot behind the Golden Nugget.

With pool…

Another name change. Coral Sands Motel.  Click here for the Coral Sands’ website with modern photographs.

Sheridan Avenue West View

This is a vintage real-photo postcard facing west from a vantage point somewhere near where Ocean Terrace Avenue is today. You can see the St. Charles Hotel on the north side of Sheridan Avenue.

Pennsylvania Railroad – New Jersey Seashore Resorts Brochure

The following images highlight the Barnegat Bay seashore resorts and were scanned from a 194-page brochure that was published in 1926 by the Pennsylvania Railroad. This is one of my most treasured and favorite Seaside Heights collectibles. Some of the establishments noted below in the advertisements are featured in my book. Photos of the St. Charles appear on pages 66 and 67; photos of the Hotel Hamilton appear on pages 67 and 68 (among other pages); and a photo of the Coast National Bank appears on page 49.
