This photo taken from the June 13, 1974, edition of The Review shows Kathy Magaraci and Bettsey Arnold marching in a local parade with their Brownie and Girl Scout troops. Kathy later served as the Seaside Heights Tax Collector and Bettsey served for many years as the town’s Borough Clerk. The Brownies and Girl Scouts who marched in this parade would likely have included Kathy’s daughter Donna (who passed away in May 2010 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer) and at least one – but maybe all three – of the Arnold sisters, Denise, Patty and Robin. As a side note, all three Arnold sisters babysat me at one time or another when I was a young kid! I lived at 119 Franklin Avenue and the Arnold family lived further west on the 200 block. The photo also shows McDevitt’s Hardware Store and the 5&10 Variety Store located on the Boulevard between Franklin and Hamilton Avenues.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year…1945 style.
