1985 Seaside Heights Commercial & Raw Footage

This half hour video contains awesome film footage of Seaside Heights circa 1985. Nearly 2 hours of raw film footage was found by Peter Smith at the Seaside Heights Boro Hall and then cut into this video by Joe Verderosa of Greenrose Media.  The video includes a 1985 Seaside Heights TV commercial, great shots of the beach and boardwalk, Rainbow Rapids, Maruca’s Pizza, Razzles nightclub, Pac Man, Casino Pier, Sun-N-Fun signs, Barnegat Bay activities like crabbing, fishing, jet skiing, and power-sailing, and shots of some boardwalk concessions, the merry-go-round, Sonny’s & Rickey’s, Midway, and the rides.

Casino Pier 1950s

This is a hard to find real photo postcard that shows the fishing pier from the amusement pier side facing east rather than from the ocean side facing west.  In fact, most of the Casino Pier fishing pier postcards in my collection are aerial shots with the camera pointed toward the west.  This card was postmarked on July 12, 1955. It was mailed by a young boy named Keith to his grandmother, Mrs. James Coyle, in Rutherford, NJ.

Surf Fishing

Fall surf fishing is heating up!  These old postcards are a reminder that catching bluefish and bass in the suds (and the occasional sand shark or skate) is a favorite pastime of Seaside Heights locals.

These vintage postcards of rowboats at the bayfront are filled with vibrant colors.  I had contemplated including both of these cards in my book, but I left them out so that I could share them in color one day.

Bay Front…Continued

The bay front offered many recreational activities – bathing, boating, crabbing, fishing, water skiiing and plunging down the slide that was located between Hamilton and Franklin Avenues. (You can expand these postcard views with a left-click of your mouse.)
