Easter (1986)

These are not the 2012 winners from yesterday’s events…these were the winners 26 years ago in 1986.  You can enlarge the thumbnail images with your mouse.

Easter (1971)

Easter 2012 is only two weeks away.  Here are some Easter images from the early 1970s. You may enlarge each thumbnail photo with your mouse.

Easter Sunday Celebration Circa 1953

After I acquired these photographs I was able to find the Ocean County Review articles that corresponded to these scenes and the people in them…Princess Summerfall Winterspring and Clarabell the Clown of the Howdy Doody Show and Buster Crabbe (former screen Tarzan and cowboy star of movies and television). Here are some facts that could make interesting trivia questions around the dinner table. First, in 1953 the Ocean Aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles, sponsored its fifth annual Easter egg hunt at Seaside Heights. Members of the organization buried 90 dozen hard-boiled eggs in the sand (YES, REAL EGGS!) and in addition several dozen plastic eggs.  The Princess presented the prizes that were written on slips of paper contained in the plastic eggs. Second, the Easter parade included a Nicest Dressed contest that was judged by fashion editors of metropolitan newspapers. Winners up to age 12 could win ponies and saddles and cocker spaniels (YES, LIVE ANIMALS!).

Easter Egg Hunt Circa 1950s

This series of vintage Easter egg hunt black-and-white photos is a part of a family collection that I acquired. The annual Easter egg hunt is welcomed by most locals and visitors as a sign that summer is just around the corner.
