1985 Seaside Heights Commercial & Raw Footage

This half hour video contains awesome film footage of Seaside Heights circa 1985. Nearly 2 hours of raw film footage was found by Peter Smith at the Seaside Heights Boro Hall and then cut into this video by Joe Verderosa of Greenrose Media.  The video includes a 1985 Seaside Heights TV commercial, great shots of the beach and boardwalk, Rainbow Rapids, Maruca’s Pizza, Razzles nightclub, Pac Man, Casino Pier, Sun-N-Fun signs, Barnegat Bay activities like crabbing, fishing, jet skiing, and power-sailing, and shots of some boardwalk concessions, the merry-go-round, Sonny’s & Rickey’s, Midway, and the rides.

Aloha Motel Ad & Photo

Southeast corner of Hamilton & Bayview Avenues (now known as Bay Boulevard) in 1972. This was the site of the Hotel Hamilton before it burned in a fire.  Needless to say, but I will anyway, if you call the 201 # you won’t be able to make a reservation.

Bayfront Road Project 1956-58

Photos of the bayfront road construction project between 1956-58 that created the existing clover leaf entrance ramp into Seaside Heights always fascinate me.  The project resulted in a modern highway that totally changed the appearance of the bayfront.

Sunset Island

The original development plan for Sunset Island (before the island was known as Pelican Island) included the construction of an airstrip on the sedge island immediately north of Sunset Island.  The concept plan also included a second bridge leading into and out of Seaside Heights. The second bridge was envisioned to start at the foot of Grant Avenue and cut across the sedge island to Sunset Island. Most of us grew up hearing about this plan from grandparents and aunts or uncles.  I read about the plan when I was researching for the book, but this postcard shows the plan from a great visual perspective.

Scuba Diver

The theme of this postcard is FUN at Seaside Heights!  In one scene a scuba diver poses on the bay beach with a speargun and his female companion.  In another scene a man runs through the breaking surf with two women.  The postcard was postmarked at the Seaside Heights Post Office on July 21, 1964.  Jeanie wrote to Dee in Hatboro, PA, that “it’s really hot here” and “I got a lot of sunburn on Sunday, especially on my face and my back.”

Sailboats at Hiering Ave. & Bayfront

This view appears to be taken from the 400 block of Hiering Ave. at the bayfront. Temperatures will hit 78 degrees today. Maybe spring has finally arrived. Get your boats ready for the water!
