Lt. Ed Groffie Returns Home

In addition to the “Local Honor Rolls,” the Ocean County Review also published a weekly column named “The Service in Review.” The column reported detailed information about the actions of local residents serving in the Armed Services.  In this column, published on May 11, 1945, Lt. Ed Groffie is reported to be back in the United States after his confinement in a German prison camp, followed by his treatment in an Army hospital for malnutrition and a bullet wound. After being released from the Army, Ed Groffie became a member of the Seaside Heights Police Department and eventually was appointed Chief of Police.
