Local Honor Rolls

Reading the Ocean County Review microfilm reels for the years covering World War II is an incredible learning experience. The pages are filled with news stories about the blackouts, brownouts, curfews, beach and fishing restrictions, and food and fuel rationing, among other wartime sacrifices back in the homeland.  But most important, the Review’s weekly “Local Honor Rolls” featured the names of local residents from Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, Lavallette and Island Beach who were serving in the Armed Forces. In the following Honor Rolls, published in February 1945, Ed Groffie is noted as missing in action by the astericks placed next to his name.
